Handmade in Rio for the world’s endless summer.
With more than 10 years of experience in the fashion industry, stylist turned designer Leo Neves launched his line, WAIWAI in 2015.
Known fro bringing the carioca (the Brazilian noun or adjective used to refer to anything related to Rio de Janeiro) flavour to Brazilian editorials and campaigns, Leo brought his signature to his brand by mixing unconventional materials such as rattan and acrylic and turning them into contemporary, summery and effortless designs for all year round.
In this collection WAIWAI decided to look inside, to explore the essence of Brazil, incorporating cultural, historical and aesthetic values.
They extend research to all regions of Brazil, observing details of local handcrafts, native plants, climate, soil, people and their traditional customs. They explore our raw materials like wood, pottery, straw, bamboo and crude stones.
They look for references in the modernist architecture of Lucio Costa, Rino Levi and Oscar Niemeyer and landscaping by Burle Marx.
The harmony of colours is present in the composition of strong tones, derived from native plants and fruits, neutral and raw tones, such as the colour of bamboo and ceramics, and reddish tones of Brazilian rivers and soils.
They use fresh and light material such as rattan, leather, linen fabrics and brass cast ornaments inspired by the Brazilian fauna and flora.
