Interview with Diamond

09.06.2017

Introducing Diamond Manahe, the charismatic co-founder of the stylist agency The Clad Life based in Dallas. Diamond’s signature looks are an eclectic mix of designers’ pieces, vintage treasures, and unexpected finds. We are inspired not only by her exuberant presence and playful style, but also by her creative eye that creates vibrant styling editorials.

Tell us about a woman who you find beautiful and inspiring? The most beautiful and inspiring woman is my mother. I watched her struggle as a single mother with grace and beauty under some tough situations. She always had a smile on her face and I think that is something that still resonates with me.

Which accessory do you like to wear to complete your silhouette? Jewellery or some sort of adornment is the last thing I put on. I love a good collar or crazy sculptural sunglasses to complete the look.

What do you collect? I collect vintage. Mostly clothing but I love finding things that tell a story and have remaining history.

What object do you cherish most? The object I cherish the most is my camera. I have found so much inspiration in capturing moments, experiences, people and things.

If you were a colour, what colour would you be? If I was colour, I’d be mustard. It brightens my life and makes everything ignite.

What’s your favourite smell? My favourite smell is anything with amber or patchouli. Serge Luten’s Amber Sultan is amazing to mix any Cedar essential oils.

What’s your favourite dish? My favourite dish is plantains. From all regions. I like the way Jamaicans cook sweet plantains.

Recommend us a book that changed your life? 48 Laws of Power. Life mantra.

Recommend us a film that has stayed with you? My favourite film of all time is Mahoghany with Dianna Ross. She is the epitome of fly. Her grace and stance in that film is beyond. And the costumes are everything you could want in life.

What piece of music defines you? No one singular piece of music defies me. All music defies me. I can’t live without music. Everything from Patrice Rushen, Erykah Badu, Sampha, Solange, Fela Kuti. The list goes on.

Tell us about the most amazing place you have travelled to? My recent travel to Cuba was such a beautiful experience. I was traveling with a group of great girlfriends and it was our first time to the country. We got tangled in situations that were unpredictable yet we embraced it with open minds and hearts and it made for a trip of a lifetime. The people of Cuba are what makes it such a magical place. I’m already planning another trip.
